This month's featured artist hails from San Francisco and is a staple of the Dirtybird sound. Two free download links to some realness. houseDJconnection brings you.....Worthy!

When it comes down to all the press and hype, his name says it all. He is Worthy. With an in-depth knowledge of production, mixing, and performance, Worthy has the insight to play for his audience, cultivating intense positive energy on the dance floor that can only be portrayed as superhuman. His sound can be described as organic breakbeats with a mix of future house, 80’s, booty bass, and techno. As Carl Cox said, “The Worthy sound has always been powerful, rocking, funky, bass-driven music at its best, and for me this is the new wave in house music.” Worthy has received the recognition of major producers who have played his tracks including Sven Vath, Diplo, and Richie Hawtin, among many.

From salty aired islands to dark club basements, Worthy pays reverence to the traditional form of classic house while tripping off the mark and sinking into the euphoric less-charted territories of booty-clapping bass. Touring the globe, Worthy has performed at renowned venues like Hive in Switzerland, Sankeys in the UK, Electric Pickle in Miami, and Mezzanine in San Francisco. Beloved by his fanatical devotees, Worthy has drawn huge crowds to catch his heart-palpitating, sweat-inducing sets at festivals like Coachella, Ultra, Love Parade, and Burning Man. In 2011, Urb Magazine named Worthy one of the Top DJ’s To See at Burning Man, along with M.A.N.D.Y., Andy C, Soul Clap, Seth Troxler, and The Crystal Method.

Growing up in Washington DC, Worthy was inspired by the early American rave scene. Upon moving to New York in the late 90’s, he was exposed to artists like LTJ Bukem and Stacey Pullen whose music inspired him to play records across multiple genres, from techno and breaks to hiphop and drum n’ bass. In 2001 he swapped coastlines, moving to San Francisco to pursue his music career. He team up with Claude VonStroke as well as fellow east coast brothers Justin and Christian Martin to create the prodigious outdoor party, Dirtybird, which quickly became an institution and a requisite destination for die-hard Bay Area and international fans. Dirtybird Records hatched from the popularity of these parties in 2005, and since then the label and parties have enjoyed tremendous success fueled by the obsession of their cult following.

In 2007 Worthy’s breakout track, Irst Te, released on Dirtybird, quickly established his notoriety as a producer. Concurrently, Worthy released Crack El EP on Leftroom, and soon after, the track Work The Walls and it’s accompanying music video on his personal label, Anabatic Records. Originally intended as an outlet for the release of his own music, Anabatic quickly branched out to sign new artists. Riding the frontlines of today’s music scene, Anabatic Records has been providing a steady stream of edgy, high quality tracks.

In recent years, Worthy has produced a consistent slough of top releases. The release of Worthy & Yankee Zulu’s Concumbia charted in the Top 10 on Beatport for tech house in 2009. He also released various tracks and remixes on Discobelle Records. In the fall of 2011, Worthy teamed up with UK producer Eats Everything. Their first track, Tric Trac, released on Dirtybird received industry praise. Played by artists like Diplo, Boyz Noise, and Cats N’ Dogs, Tric Trac wildly grew in fan appeal moving on to become one of the Top 10 on Beatport for tech house once again. Additionally, Worthy’s simultaneous releases, No Cure and With This combine dirty ass-clapping breaks and gritty synths. The pinball effect of his intricate basslines traverse across the cavern of your ear canal moving inward and blowing your mind. Illustrating the diverse juxtaposition of his range and sound, his February 2012 release, Why You Waiting, on Alive Records, is like glassy water on a quiet morning sea, his beats & melodies mirroring each other, creating a melodic interface that warms the soul. As Worthy states “I want to push my new sound, which is leaning more toward a breakbeat old-school vibe, but still want to keep with the fact that I play house and techno. My focus is to stay innovative and authentic and to continually reinvent myself as an artist.”

Worthy has an original flavor that will amp you up, leaving you feigning for more. The synchronization of Worthy’s music speaks to the connoisseur, the DJ, the groupie and the novice alike. Finding balance and unison across all electronic music platforms, his music is unparalleled. He reads his crowd, breaking and fusing genres, blending styles, and establishing an energetic dance floor camaraderie that makes even the most skeptic hater’s booty shake.

Dave Aju's "Caller # 7" (Seth Troxler & Subb-An Remix)

 dave-aju-caller-7-seth-troxler-subb-an

With the homespun warmth of his album still keeping us toasty as the temperature drops in the Northern hemisphere, Dave Aju offers up a choice cut from Heirlooms to receive surgical treatment at the hands of dear friends and respected practitioners in our beloved corner of electronic music. The divine boogie-fuelled electro pop of “Caller#7” stood out as one of the most flamboyant and earsnagging tracks on the album, so who better to entrust the remix to than Seth Troxler and Subb-an?

Seth of course is a long-time partner of Circus Company, stretching back to 2008 when he first recorded an EP for us with Patrick Russell. Subb-an may be a new cat to us, but thereʼ s no denying the impact he has made with his releases for some of the strongest tech house labels around. In the hands of this formidable duo, “Caller#7” gets sharpened and honed into a peak-time floor-filler.

The vocals from Dave and dOPʼs Jaw and that inimitable bassline remain intact, with the focus switched to boosting the rhythms that propel this party-starter while a disgruntled caller drops in on Radio KAJU to speak her mind like a true soul sister should.

Dapayk & Padberg's "Fluffy Clouds"... Another House Music Gem

Download Here: Dapayk & Padberg "Fluffy Clouds" (Ariel Curtis Terry Bag Remix)

Dapayk & Padberg are Niklas Worgt and Eva Padberg. Niklas has been a producer since 1993 and has released tracks under several different monikers on his label, Mo`s Ferry. In 2003 topmodel Eva Padberg, who had been doing some of the graphic design for previous releases since the middle of the 90's, started to live out her musical creativity with the project "Dapayk & Padberg". The work on their label and her career as a model takes a lot of her time whether it's working locally near her spot in New York or traveling to her flat in Berlin for numerous opportunities in the music and modeling business. The music of Dapayk & Padberg contains Eva's ideas of sounds and once narrative, once melodic lyrics comibined with the creativity of Niklas' musical roots.

This is the Ariel Curtis Terry Bag Remix of Fluffy Clouds released on Stil Vor Talent. A thunderous deep house track with vocal riffs that lace the track up with all the necessary tones and vibes to round out a sick piece of artwork. With sounds as beautiful as Ms. Eva herself, this track has and will devastate dancefloors across the globe. Enjoy!

Can't Live Without Music

Some real nice jems right here. These guys are flying high around the globe and these tracks are a testament as to why they've become so popular so fast. Read on about their debut artist album EFunk which will be released very soon on Wolf + Lamb...

"Once a distant message written in the stars, the wisdom of Soul Clap has been beamed down to Earth in the form of EFUNK - Everybody's Freaky Under Natures Kingdom - their debut album on Wolf + Lamb.

Before today there was yesterday and after tomorrow is the future, but what happened in-between? The dark age of lost-cool, a time of dimensional imbalance when music was devoured by a black-hole of wackness. Now, marked by a solar-flare in the funky constellations, Soul Clap delivers a galactic renaissance to fill our ears with interplanetary consciousness and emancipate our booties from the androids of dancefloor repetition. The days of EFUNK are upon us, restoring dopeness in the universe, as we groove on and move on together in intergalactic harmony!"

Stay tuned for more tracks and beats from the houseDJconnection crew!

Art Department "Touch You Gently". Their newest deep house bomb!

art-department-crosstown-rebels-dance-music-deep-house-free

It's been a whirlwind two years for Toronto-based new-school house duo Art Department. In that stretch of time, the pair has put out four singles and The Drawing Board, its critically acclaimed debut LP. Through that span, Art Department has created a dark musical world that reflects the seedy underbelly of nightlife, portraying it as a pleasure zone lost in the excess and abandon of a month spent below the surface on ketamine. Druggy to the extreme, their music is a patchwork of dark basslines, out-of-tune vocals, and an arrangement style that emphasizes length and atmosphere over movement and tightness. Perhaps it's this last reason that some of Art Department's strongest moments come when the group hands the controls over to someone else. A prime example of this was last year's "We Call Love," which featured total reworks by Daphni (a.k.a. Caribou) and DJ Harvey, both of which injected a sense of momentum that was missing in the original recording. Now, with "Touch You Gently," the duo's latest on Crosstown Rebels, Art Department is back with a two-track single that seems to bear this out once again.

The single's a-side is the titular "Touch You Gently." Clocking in at a little over 10 minutes, it's a standard Art Department production that brings to mind the outfit's first single, "Without You." Per usual, singer Kenny Glasgow wails a dirgish line over a low bassline, swirling Rhodes chords, and sparse, clap-heavy percussion. Yet, unlike "Without You," it drags on for a good seven minutes before finally settling into a loose groove. Even then, the track never finds a footing to justify its length. Similarly, Kenny Glasgow's vocals just don't hold up on such a long cut, as his sloppy and creepy pleas of "Let me touch you gently" become grating with repetition. Granted, previous Art Department tracks have revolved around playing with the boundaries of tonality, but in this instance, it's just too much.

Thankfully, the failings of the a-side are nullified by Brennan Green's excellent b-side remix of The Drawing Board album cut "Tell Me Why." Like previous Art Department remixers, Green works effectively as an outside influence coming from a place far removed from gloomy tech house. Fittingly, he draws on his experience in New York's disco and house community to craft a mix that blends the original's futurist sound palette with heavily reverbed layers of crashing pianos and a dancefloor-friendly rhythm dominated by busy hi-hat work. It's a breezy and dubbed-out cut, but one that, unlike the a-side, never feels as though it's overstayed its welcome. Perhaps another remixer will eventually work some similar magic with "Touch You Gently."

Free dance track download:

Adam Collins Meets Duran Duran by Euphoria Records

Producer/DJ Adam Collins | Euphoria Records | Boston

Adam's insight on this track:

"Cool little bootleg I did of Duran Duran's Save A Prayer. I recorded this track on my parents PC in the middle of the night a few years back. Its been an exclusive DJ tool for me this whole time. Works well in peak time or as filler. Hope you get some good use out if it too!"

Artist Bio:

Since his emergence from the Chicago underground in the mid 90’s, DJ/producer Adam Collins’ name has been almost instantly synonymous with the true underground Tech-House movement in America, well before the upstart genre’s emergence among the trainspotters as a cool musical buzzword. From his work as one-half of Omni A.M. (with production partner-in-crime Marky Star), the output of the duo’s lauded Euphoria label, and an enviable catalog of solo releases on Big Chief, Uppercutz, New Life, Crayon and Swag, Adam has consistently challenged the House music status quo and spread his unique vision of unpredictable House music throughout the world.

With early records like “Seducing Reality” and “Keep Doing That”/”Can We Get”; dark and chugging psychedelic House that is both hard and deep, Omni A.M. quickly achieved cult status, finding their way into the crates of such influential DJ’s as Derrick Carter, Mr. C, “Evil” Eddie Richards, and Terry Francis while “Beat Dis,” a breaky analog salute to dance culture, even landed on Tyrant DJ’s Lee Burridge & Craig Richards’ prestigious mix compilation for Fabric, This as well as collaborations with a veritable “Who’s Who of House,” including hip-house legend Tyree Cooper and early UK tech-house don Mark Ambrose, have helped earn Adam and Omni A.M. recognition on both sides of the Atlantic as the first U.S. innovators of what is now called “Tech-House”.

Since then, Collins has built up an enviable catalog of solo releases for Big Chief, Swag, Crayon, Primal and Existence Records. His collaborations with London producer Grant Dell are released on Rhythmic and Mother Tongue. Adam has also remixed for legendary producers Derrick Carter, Jay Tripwire, and Mr.C.

As a DJ, Adam has established himself as a leading American face in the tech-house party circuit, playing countless club sets and radio appearances around the world including Air, Maniac Love, Module (Japan), Turnmills, Kiss FM, The Church (London), Home / Aura (Lima, Peru), Blues Club (Quito, Ecuador), Cha Cha (Bogota, Colombia), 1015 Fulsom (San Francisco), Spundae / Circus (LA), Crobar (Chicago), Arc, Vinyl, Pacha (New York), as well as spots in Mexico, Dominican Republic, Canada and Scotland.

Upcoming Gig! Catch Adam Collins and Pete Dafeet (Lost My Dog) perform in NYC on July 15th. 116 McDougal St. 10-4am $2 Well Drinks.
